Just to clarify, Dr. Tighe hasn’t been banned at TitusOneNine. Hopefully we can work out the software issues. We share Stand Firm’s concerns about some of his comments, as of course he knows as we have edited or removed some on various threads. But we hope we can find a way forward which will allow him to continue to comment. We know many readers appreciate his expertise and his perspective. Stay tuned…

I should add that no such banning, nor any editing of comments will occur at the Confessing Reader, save to remove obscenities. Even mere ad hominem will usually be let stand, as an example of the weakness of the commenter’s arguments and the poverty of his intellect.

I believe that Dr Tighe’s repeated (indeed, near incessant) insertion of digs about the ordination of women into most threads at Stand Firm was inappropriate. I say that not because I disagree with him (indeed, I am mostly in agreement with him on this particular matter), but because I don’t think that style of argument wins over the hearts and minds of the opposition. It is counterproductive and serves only to harden opinions.

Nevertheless, that is no sufficient reason to ban someone from commenting at a weblog. His being banned is redolent of the sort of banning that goes on at certain “reappraising” weblogs when conservative arguments expose and probe at raw nerves.

Dear Todd, you use the word “unfortunately” to describe Dr. Tighe’s ban from Stand Firm. Would you care to elaborate with an opinion about SFIF’s decision to ban Dr. Tighe and why you think it’s unfortunate.
